~Update 6/9/15
Chance is making wonderful progress. He LOVES to bark and play with the other dogs and would be playing with the cat if the cat would allow it. Chance pretty much takes everything in stride, if something startles him he doesn’t overreact, he’s very curious & observant. Since 5/31/15 Chance has progressed from a long line in the backyard to a short leash. The long line was for 2 reasons; I was afraid he might get out of the fenced in yard and wasn’t sure I could catch him. He’s learned to sit when he’s approached to be picked up. He’s gone from acting like a fish on a pole thrashing around to walking fairly confident on a leash, not ready for prime time but we are getting there. His fur is coming in nicely and likes being groomed and his nails trimmed. He loves to be loved on, especially belly rubs. He loves sleeping on the sofa and the bed. He likes toys and unfortunately, he likes shoes so he needs a watchful eye to teach him what is appropriate to chew on. He has had NO accidents in the house but will need to be monitored closely to keep up the good work. He goes into his crate easily, likes mealtimes, is a very cute beggar and, so far, we’ve found out he likes watermelon, carrots, bing cherries, and bananas. He’s very smart and learns quickly, he needs someone with a kind and patient heart to teach him to be the best he can be. The first week or two in a new home will be crucial for Chance to feel comfortable in his new surroundings. Obviously, he’s adorable and will make a lucky family a wonderful companion. Oh, did I mention, he loves to BARK?
CHANCE is new at Sheltie Shack Rescue. He was one of 64 shelties removed from a single home. He is currently very timid and will need to be socialized enough to be adopted in the hopefully not to distant future. He has made some good strides, but will need to make it over more hurdles prior to being available to adopt. He's a small (3 yr old) boy (15#). Unfortunately it was also necessary to shave his coat prior to arriving here, but his hair will grow back in time.
